SA Migration
International was created out of the need for a
specialist organization to assist people wishing to immigrate,
volunteer, work, bring family, study or open businesses in South
Africa.
A couple originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have
found themselves stateless after renouncing their citizenship in order
to be naturalised as South Africans.
Recently sworn in President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa,
highlighted the importance of tourism and its potential for growth in
his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Friday (Feb 16).
For migrants who have watched the Gupta citizenship saga over the past
week, rage does not begin to describe their feelings. This family got
what many could not: they found the secret to getting home affairs to
do their bidding.
Durban - More than 1 000 refugees desperately awaiting citizenship
documentation, are living in fear that they will be deported to their
war-ravaged countries if the Department of Home Affairs does not get
its house in order.
Home Affairs Deputy Minister Fatima Chohan says the repositioning of
Home Affairs within the security cluster allows the department to
effectively contribute to crime fighting, among other services.
Immigration attorney and founder of Eisenberg & Associates, Gary
Eisenberg, says when the department of Home Affairs introduced
amendments of the immigration laws in May 2014, the light went out.
South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, Derek Hanekom, says increasing jobs
and ease of access in the tourism sector is possible.
The public protector has ordered the home affairs minister to review
the 10-year period to apply for naturalisation, and ensure it aligns
with the five-year period in the Citizenship Act. SA
