universities in critical skills areas will soon qualify for permanent
residence permits, so their talents can be retained, Home Affairs

To change the perception that it is a slow and moribund department,
Home Affairs is evolving with the times to be able execute on its mandate.
Department accused of wasting money
The case between the Department of Home Affairs and immigration
lawyers, who are accusing the department of being in contempt of a
High Court order, has been postponed to next month.
Fact: Worldwide, one in every 114 people is displaced. According to
the United Nations an estimated 200 million people globally live
outside their home countries, a number that has increased by more than
40% in the past decade. Population displacement is a top global issue,
while here in South Africa; illegal immigration is a heated and
sensitive topic. However, finding a remedy is about as easy as finding
a needle in a haystack.
The minister of Home Affairs was grilled by the opposition in
parliament on Friday on why a Gupta-directed company was issuing
receipts for people applying for visas through VFS Global.
Democratic Alliance (DA) MP and Durban mayoral candidate Haniff Hoosen
has called for an investigation into a company with alleged Gupta
connections that processes visa applications on behalf of the
Department of Home Affairs.
