PRETORIA: There is hope for stateless children born in South Africa
who do not have any citizenship, with the Supreme Court of Appeal in
Bloemfontein last week giving Home Affairs 18 months to streamline
regulations that will make it easier for other stateless children to
apply for citizenship.
Cape Town - Foreign students at UCT have raised concerns about the
possible impact of the shutdown of academic activities, which could
extend the academic year beyond the expiry dates of their visas.
All UCT campuses are closed until Friday after disruptions escalated
earlier this week.
Johannesburg - The home affairs department on Thursday warned the
public to not be mislead by "dubious characters" who were sending out
a hoax message claiming to work for the department and could help with
official documents.
The growth of SA's green economy comes amid uncertainties regarding
the future of independent power producers in the country.
Pretoria - Talks were ongoing regarding the relaxation or elimination
of visa requirements for South Africans travelling to European Union
(EU) member states, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba announced on
Tuesday.
Despite the international attention that is currently focussed on
migratory flows directed towards Europe and other Western countries,
the continued flow of Ethiopian migrants and asylum seekers along the
southern corridor to South Africa via Kenya, Tanzania and other
southern African countries is significant.
In a very comprehensive judgment handed down today in the High Court
of South Africa , Western Cape Division, Immigration Directive 21 of
2015 barring Refugees and Asylum seekers form applying for a change of
status to any Visa or Permit in terms of the Immigration Act has been
declared to be inconsistent with the Constitution of the Republic and
invalid and set aside.

his skills and contribute to the economy when he sought asylum in
