The Covid-19 pandemic and provisions of the Disaster Management Act have reduced already-slow Home Affairs processes to a crawl â€` impacting thousands of people and creating a backlog that could take years to clear.
Home Affairs minister Aaron Motsoaledi says that his department has concluded its e-visa pilot process and now plans to officially roll the system out later this year.

Home Affairs â€` Permanent Residence to commence
The permit services in terms of the Immigration Act will be rendered by the Department of Home Affairs as follows :
(a) Permanent residence permits appeals applications with effect from 1 October 2021.
(b) Proof of permanent residence permits applications with effect from 1 October 2021;and
(c) Permanent residence permits applications with effect from January 2022.
