Applying for critical skills work visa in South Africa as an artisan has been a challenge for the longest time. In 2014 when the current amendments to the Immigration Act were gazetted several gaps were identified in the Act which included the absence of a SAQA accredited professional body to register artisans. ECSA was not an option due to their minimum NQF criteria of 5 which was a notch above the rating being given by SAQA for artisans. There was a time letters issued by the National Artisan Moderation Body, (NAMB), were sufficient and then they were not.

Home Affairs has opened services for South Africans but asylum seekers remain shut out Refugees and asylum seekers want the Home Affairs Refugee Reception Office in Durban to reopen. It has been closed for nearly two years. • Refugee organisations are asking Home Affairs to reopen its Refugee Reception Offices. • The offices have been closed to asylum seekers since March 2020. • Home Affairs offices have reopened services for South Africans but not for refugees.

Minister explains the responsibilities of departments involved Almost 18,000 illegal foreign nationals have been held incarcerated in the country’s correctional facilities in the past five years. Of these, about 52% were sentenced by November 2021. Justice & correctional services minister Ronald Lamola gave the figures in a written parliamentary response after DA MP Désirée van der Walt had inquired about the number of illegal foreign nationals held between 2017 and 2021.

12. Feb. 2022 Sa Migration

Section 30(1)(h) of the Immigration Act of South Africa and Regulation 27(3) of the Immigration Regulations. A person will be declared ‘undesirable’ and will receive a ban regardless of the reason for the overstay. The ban applies to any person who has overstayed, adults and children. The ban and being declared ‘undesirable’ also affects people who leave South Africa while their application for a visa (or visa extension) is pending, if their current visa has expired.
