Officials crack down on domestic slave trade

Source: EWN, 09/07/2015

Johannesburg, 09 July 2015 - The Department of Labour and Home Affairs
cracked down on a number of unlicenced domestic worker 'agencies'
recently. One agent has many more passports than the number of women
she is acting as an agent for. In May, CheckPoint reported on the
abuse of domestic workers, smuggled into the country from Lesotho,
paraded before prospective employers like slaves and left virtual
prisoners without passports.
We focused on one such establishment in Soweto, but many more exist,
as the Departments of Labour and Home Affairs discovered during a
recent crackdown.
