JOHANNESBURG – A group of Dutch teenagers prevented from boarding a
flight to South Africa after failing to comply with new Home Affairs
regulations are expected to arrive in the country later this week.
The eight were forced to return to the Netherlands for failing to
produce unabridged birth certificates.
On Thursday the eight were forced to return to the Netherlands after
being turned away by Swiss airline officials for failing to produce
unabridged birth certificates.

They were allegedly left stranded at the airport for over 12 hours
while outstanding documents were collected and sent to Home Affairs in
South Africa.

Lara Kruiskamp of youth empowerment organisation the President's Award
says the teenagers have secured a new flight and will resume their
humanitarian trip this week.

"They managed to get a flight on Kenya Airways on Thursday and managed
to extend their leaving ticket by two days. We can`t wait to give them
a warm hearty South African welcome and let them know they really are
welcome here."

The Home Affairs Department meanwhile says it believes its new visa
laws for child travel are uncomplicated and should be adhered to.
