JOHANNESBURG – The Congress of the People (Cope) has urged Home
Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba to do more to tackle corruption at Home
Affairs offices in the country.

This follows reports that a number of Home Affairs officials are
demanding bribes from locals and foreign nationals who visit the
offices to renew documents.

Cope spokesperson Dennis Bloem says it's shocking that a third of
foreigners have reported experiencing corruption and personally making
payments to security guards, police, interpreters and Home Affairs
officials.

"There`s a very serious problem that Cope can`t understand why the
minister and the department cannot wipe up that corruption."
