JOHANNESBURG – Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom says it's unfortunate
that he and his Home Affairs counterpart Malusi Gigaba have been seen
to be at loggerheads over new visa rules.

The Tourism Minister says he and his Home Affairs counterpart share a
common purpose of protecting SA.
The ministers were reportedly engaged in a public spat over new
stringent regulations implemented by the Home Affairs Department in June.

An inter-ministerial task team has since been set up to review the new
policies after concerns that they were keeping tourists away.

Hanekom has stressed that the Tourism and Home Affairs departments
share a common purpose of protecting the country while supporting tourism.

"It`s just a matter of finding the right way of doing it. And we`re
trying to save trouble by not compromising our country`s security
interests. Minister Gigaba and I are not at loggerheads and I think
it`s unfortunate that it`s been portrayed in such a way."
