Home Affairs late registration of birth campaign to end this year

Home Affairs is warning parents who do not take advantage of a late
registration of birth campaign that they will face more stringent
registration measures once the campaign comes to an end.

Minister Malusi Gigaba encouraged residents of Inanda yesterday to
register their babies.

Gigaba says the campaign has been taken across the country for the
past seven years.

He says they have embarked on a national roadshow to let people know
that it wraps up this year.

"The late registration of birth, whilst it has solved many problems,
it has also created loopholes for people who don't deserve to be on
the national population register to enter it through fraudulent and
unscrupulous affidavits provided by traditional leaders, priests and
principals," he said.
