JOHANNESBURG - Zimbabwe`s revenue authority says it`s deployed extra
staff to Beitbridge to handle the influx of travellers this festive
season.

Beitbridge crowds have become an unwelcome feature at this time of the
year, when thousands of Zimbabweans resident in South Africa make
their way home for the holidays.

Senior official in the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, Florence Jambwa,
has told the Chronicle newspaper that additional staff have been
deployed at Beitbridge to cope with increased traffic.

An immigration officer at the border, Francis Mabika, says the
authorities are trying to increase efficiency not just at Beitbridge
but at all of Zimbabwe`s crossing points.

Some unhappy travellers from South Africa have been opting to travel
through Plumtree to avoid Beitbridge.

During public holidays the border becomes a chaotic mix of motorists,
buses and trucks.

South Africa`s Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, has also assured
travellers that South Africa`s border posts, including Beitbridge,
will operate with extra staff.
