JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Home Affairs says at least 30
officials have been arrested on charges of corruption in the past six
months.

A senior home affairs official was granted bail in the Pretoria
commercial crimes court on Friday.

She was arrested on Thursday by the Hawks while she was accepting a
R40,000 bribe.

Home Affairs spokesperson Mayihlome Tshwete says it is all part of
operation Visa Masina which aims to get rid of corrupt
employees.

"We hope that trial will be swift and that a strong sentence is handed
down so that we can give a very clear message to all people, both
those inside and outside of home affairs, that the department will not
stand for corruption."
