More immigration officials will be deployed to OR Tambo International
Airport as large numbers of travellers are heading to various holiday
destinations.

On Saturday Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, did an inspection at
the airport following the recently launched biometric system to
enhance security while easing pressure on travellers.

Scores of visitors are travelling through OR Tambo - South Africa's
busiest airport - causing delays for some promoting the minister's
intervention.

"I received two complaints from clients about the delays in the
services here at the OR Tambo International Airport. I then decided to
call an emergency meeting with our top managers to have a discussion
about this, analyse it and find solutions," says the Home Affairs
Minister.

However, for traveller`s things were different.

"It was really easy and quick to get to where we wanted to go.
Everyone was very nice we appreciate the professionalism that everyone
showed and we are very happy to be here."

As of Monday, 30 additional immigration officials will be deployed at
the airport, and Gigaba also issued a stern warning to employees.

"We have a high number of sick leaves during this period that is why
we've decided that anybody who submits a sick leave
application from the 18th of December this year we will have to assess
that sick leave," says Gigaba.
