The city of Cape Town has seen huge numbers of visitors.
According to preliminary figures from Cape Town`s attractions, the
city has experienced one of the busiest ever holiday periods so far.
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway and Robben Island have revealed
record-breaking visitor numbers, with other big attractions also
sharing positive forecasts.

The cableway had a record December with 28% more visitors than in
December 2014. This is a result of its being open each day and more
favourable weather.

Robben Island Museum recorded the highest increase in visitors in
December, with 43% more tourists visiting the museum than in the same
period in 2014. A total of 46 793 tickets were sold compared with 33
495 in December 2014. Visitor numbers this year were also higher than
in 2010, when 43 208 tickets were sold when the country hosted Soccer
World Cup.

The V&A Waterfront saw an increase year on year for December with
around 180 000 visitors on New Year`s Eve over the 24 hours and
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens welcomed around 115 000 visitors in
December.

The weakening rand has boosted the local tourism sector and the
exchange rate remains favourable to international visitors.

"As a city we are pleased to note the increase in visitor number that
show that Cape Town continues to be a destination of choice for both
local and international holiday makers," said Councillor Garreth
Bloor, Mayoral Committee Member: Tourism, Events and Economic Development.
