Zimbabwe to attract Chinese with relaxed visa regime

Chinese tourists can now obtain a visa on arrival in Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe has relaxed its visa requirements for Chinese nationals,
allowing them to get visas on arrival in a bid to grow arrivals from
the Asian giant, according to the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Previously, China was in category C, which meant that its nationals
had to obtain visas before travelling to Zimbabwe. Only nationals from
countries in category A do not require visas for Zimbabwe.

Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi, said his
ministry would continue pushing for relaxation of visas to boost
arrivals. "Chinese will now get visas upon arrival. China has been
Zimbabwe`s `all weather friend` since the country looked east more
than a decade ago."

Arrivals from China grew by 46% in the six months to June 30, 2015 and
arrivals from Hong Kong increased to 3 973 from 2 730.

In the 2015 first half Tourism Statistics Overview report, ZTA said
81% of the Chinese arrivals had entered through Harare International
Airport, followed by 6% at Victoria Falls border, 5% at Victoria Falls
airport and 3% at Kazungula.

The report also revealed that no Chinese visitors had entered through
Beitbridge border post and that most were going through Harare
International Airport for business purposes.
