Airport upgrade, removal of visa fees and construction of the Dongo
Kundu are some of the ways the Kenya government will improve tourism
Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has introduced a tourism incentive
package as part of a strategy to help the country`s tourism sector to
recover. Incentives included wavering the visa fee for children under
16, an expansion of Malindi Airport, a reduction on Kenya Wildlife
Service (KWS) park fees and the continued construction of Dongo Kundu
bypass.

The Kenyan government said the visa fee for children under the age of
16 from Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cameroon, Georgia, Iran,
Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan, Senegal,
Somali, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan and Yemen , would be removed at the
beginning of next month.

The upgrade of Malindi Airport would make travellers` journeys to the
region more convenient, said the President.

KWS park fees will be reduced from US$90 (R1 481) to $60 (R988) for
the 2016/17 financial year. The President has directed the National
Treasury to follow up on the directive and amend the respective laws
for full implementation.

Also, the construction of the Dongo Kundu bypass is under way and,
once completed, will allow tourists the option of travelling from the
mainland to the South Coast without using a ferry.
