Trapped in SA by Home Affairs
06 March 2016 – South Coast Herald
Their lives have come to a halt as a result of the long wait.
UVONGO man Dave Burton has been battling for two years to get a
required `vault copy` of a birth certificate for his seven-year-old
daughter before the family can go overseas.
Mr Burton needs the certificate to get a passport for his daughter,
but two applications, dozens of emails and even a plea for help to
Fatima Chohan, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, have not helped.
The latter was kind enough to delegate a Veronica Magodielo from her
office to resolve the problem, but still in vain.
Another 20 emails later to Ms Magodielo and Home Affairs have gone
unanswered.
Mr Burton said he didn`t know who to turn to any longer.
"We had booked flights to England for April, but it doesn`t look like
it`s going to happen," said Mr Burton.
"We are just flushing money down the drain and all for a simple copy
of a birth certificate."
Thabo Makgola, from Home Affairs communication services, told the
Herald that the matter had been taken up with the provincial manager.
However, he then asked for contact details of the family and promised
to get hold of them.
Now, a week later, still no joy.
