Cape Point is currently undergoing upgrades costing R34 million (€2.2
million).

The Cape Point water line and sewerage system have been completely
redone, and all ablution facilities have been upgraded. An additional
lane is being added to ease congestion and visitor flow at the main
gate. The Cape Point internal road network is being expanded and Cape
Point lighthouse has been upgraded during the annual
Some of the projects, such as the lighthouse and ablution facilities,
have already been completed. "We are aiming for the summer season of
2016/17 for completion," said Tarcia Hendricks, SANParks Cape Region
Public Relations Officer. "Table Mountain National Park aims to
enhance the visitor experience by striving to provide facilities of a
world-class nature and in doing so conduct regular maintenance work
and upgrading of facilities," said Hendricks. "The road resurfacing
and main gate upgrade will ease traffic flow and congestion, allowing
visitors to use their time optimally once entering the park."

An upgrade to the section of road between Buffelsfontein Visitor
Centre and Rooikrans Traffic Circle has commenced. The four-kilometre
section of road is expected to take 12 months to complete. "During
this time there will be one-way traffic management in place via a
stop-go system.

Disruptions to traffic flow will occur,
however this will be kept to a minimum," said Saskia Marlowe, Table
Mountain National Park Hospitality and Tourism Services
Manager.

"The road has developed potholes over time due to road failure, as it
was never designed to carry the weight and number of tour buses
travelling on it daily," said Marlowe, adding that the intention is to
upgrade a further section of road as funding becomes available.

"Infrastructure upgrades are part of ensuring we remain a travel
destination of choice when visiting Cape Town. We wish to continue to
offer our visitors a world-class experience and to do regular upgrades
as they are required," said Marlowe
