Following an incident reported by a tour operator, passengers at South
African airports are advised to report cases of extortion by security
staff to the nearest I-Help Desk.

Stephen Abelsohn, owner of Go2SouthAfrica, said that after completing
a tour with a large group of travellers from the US he received a
complaint from the local US tour guide accompanying the group. She
said at the final security check in OR Tambo a few clients were
advised by security that they were carrying liquid that was not
allowed in the US.

Security allegedly advised the group that
if they paid they could keep the liquids. According to the clients the
liquids were only 8.7ml bottles containing lotion and mouthwash.

Acsa has advised that if there is an attempt at extortion, passengers
should report the incidents to the nearest information desk in the
terminal or at the local police station, where an investigation will
be conducted.
