Home Affairs urge parents to register newborns within 30 days

CAPE TOWN â€" The Department of Home Affairs has stressed the importance
of parents registering their children new births within 30 days of
their birth.


Over a 100 bundles of joy were welcomed into the world in the Western
Cape on New Year’s Day.


While Home Affairs officials are urging parents to ensure the
registration of their newborns within this month, Gauteng Health
Department spokesperson Steve Mabona has reiterated the importance of
vaccinations.


“A word of gratitude to all employees who worked tirelessly during
this period to make sure that things go as per our plan.”


A total of 284 babies were delivered at healthcare facilities in
Gauteng on New Year’s Day.


Western Cape Health department spokesperson Nadia Ferreira says 69
babies were born in the Cape Town Metro and 40 in rural districts.


“Our first girl was born at 00h22 at New Somerset Hospital and she
weighed 2.6kg and her length was 49cm.”


According to the official statistics, more baby boys were born
countrywide on New Year’s Day.
