Cape Town - If you were planning to collect your passport, smart-card
ID or visa documents on Saturday, best you make alternative plans.

The Deparment of Home Affairs has confirmed that all weekend
operations have been suspended as wage negotiations with Unions are
ongoing.

Minister of Home Affairs, Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize says talks aimed at
resolving the impasse regarding Saturday operations are "proceeding
well".

The DHA has confirmed to Traveller24 the incapacity is not expected to
affect passport control for those travelling internationally - but
specifically front offices, facilitating ID, Passport and birth
registrations as well as collections, including visas.

"The DHA and Unions have been locked in talks since Monday, 3 July to
find a solution to the labour dispute which has led to the suspension
of operation in Home Affairs offices countrywide on Saturdays."

"The implications of the ongoing negotiations are that Home Affairs
offices will not be operational this Saturday, 08 July 2017 until and
unless an agreement is reached," says Mkhize.

Both the Department and unions have acknowledged the importance of
ending the Saturday work stoppage.
