A court interpreter for the Department of Justice at the Galeshewe
Court has pleaded guilty on two charges of corruption and defeating the
ends of justice.
An investigation by the Hawks has culminated in the accused, McAnderson
Doctor, being charged for facilitating bribery ¬transactions between a
Home Affairs immigration officer and an illegal immigrant.
This follows the immigrant’s arrest for not having the necessary asylum
documents.
“The immigration officer reported the incident to the De¬partment of
Home Affairs’ management, who later referred the matter to the Hawks
for further investigation,” said Hawks spokesperson, Capt. Philani
Nkwa¬lase.
McAnderson was fined R12 000 with an alternative five years’
imprisonment.
He was further sentenced to an additional three-year term of
imprisonment, suspended for five years on condition that he does not
commit similar offences.
