Google to Shut Down Websites Built with Business Profiles: What You Need to Know

Source: Search Engine land, 10/01/2024

Google has announced the shutdown of websites created using Google Business Profiles. As of March, these websites will be deactivated, and visitors attempting to access them will be automatically redirected to the respective Business Profiles until June 10. After this date, visitors will encounter a `page not found` error.

Key Details:

Transition Period: Businesses seeking to maintain their online presence must rebuild their websites using alternative platforms. Until June 10, updating the Business Profile with the new site address is crucial for a seamless transition.

Recommended Platforms: Google suggests using alternative tools such as Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy, Google Sites, Shopify, or WordPress to create a new website for businesses.

Ad Campaigns: If Ads campaigns are linked to a website from Google Business Profile, businesses need to either change the link before March 1 to keep the ads running or opt to pause the campaigns.

Third-Party Domains: For those with custom domains directing traffic to Google Business Profile websites, redirection to Business Profiles will occur until June 10. To manage this transition, users should log in to their hosting company accounts, select the `Redirect` option, or a similar feature to reroute third-party domains to a different website before the specified date.

Google`s Statement:
A spokesperson from Google mentioned that websites made with Google Business Profiles are basic sites powered by information from Business Profiles. Domains ending with business.site and negocio.site will be removed from the website field on Business Profiles in March. Google advises updating the Business Profile to point to a new website.
