Italy‘s nationalist government approved a bill in the upper house of parliament on Thursday that aims to reduce the number of migrants who can claim some form of asylum and curb integration efforts.
The bill, which still needs the approval of the lower house to become law, was drawn up after a shipwreck off southern Italy in February that killed more than 90 migrants.

The South African economy has had its roughest downturn over the last three years, and despite ranking fairly well against fellow emerging economies in the BRICS block, the persisting challenges continue to threaten hopes of a thriving economy.
These rough times the economy is experiencing has also seen business withholding capital and some redirecting it to stabilizing operations by investing in alternative power supplies instead of expansions.
Previously when the same businesses were withholding capital, it was termed “investment strike†as the capital was not being redirected but simply withheld in a ‘wait and see’ silent protest.
Both scenarios have the same impact but this time the money is being invested in a different sector of the same economy.
The Helen Suzman Foundation has gone to court to challenge Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi`s decision to terminate the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit.
The permit allows around 178 000 Zimbabwean nationals to live and work in South Africa.
Arguments were based on whether the decision was administrative or executive and if it was procedurally unfair and irrational.
Was the decision not to renew the Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP) an administrative or executive action or was it irrational, antithetical to the Constitution and procedurally unfair?
These are some of the questions that a full bench of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria will seek to answer before delivering judgment in a case relating to the effective termination of the ZEP.

• Sun International says SA should fix its visa regime and make it easier for foreign visitors to come to the country.
• The owner of Sun City believes a simplification would result in a surge in tourism and help address the country`s dismal unemployment problem.
• There is particularly potential to attract tourists from China, which has about 140 million outbound travellers a year.
Sun International says SA is `scoring a couple of own goals` if it does not simplify its visa regime for foreign visitors.
Graham Wood, COO of the company, which owns Sun City along with other top hotels and casinos, said on Wednesday if SA allowed visas on entry - instead of forcing potential visitors to have to apply for them in their home countries - there was potential for the `floodgate to open`. SA
